After some delays due to road work, we drove through Yosemite National Park for the third day and again admired the amazing views of Tioga Pass.

Mono Lake, directly east of Yosemite and famous of its salt deposits, was a perfect spot for us to eat our leftover pizza.
Due to the height of the nearby mountain range, the green scenery suddenly changed into a bare desert. We drove for miles without any traffic ahead or behind us over the most desolate highway of the US.
The little town of Beatty suddenly appeared as a fata morgana. After a long day, we fuelled up the car and ourselves and finally settled into our motel “the Atomic Inn”.
Tomorrow we will battle the heat of Death Valley and explore a few of its highlights.
