We started our day in Capitol Reef National Park by exploring two viewpoints near the road.
We then hiked the Fremont River trail, which first follows the river and then ascents onto the nearby rocks. We were rewarded by a beautiful view over the green Fruita valley, rich with fruit orchards and surrounded by red and yellow rocks.
After lunch, we drove the scenic byway, which follows the Waterpocket Fold, basically a wrinkle in the earth crust.
We explored a few highlights along highway 24, including Grand Wash Trail and Capitol Dome, before cooling off in the pool of our motel.
Tomorrow we will drive to Bryce Canyon National Park via Utah's Scenic Byway 12.
