Day 17

Time to explore Mérida, but first we tried to upgrade our data simcard without luck. Sadly this cost us around an hour of precious shade.

Mérida has a nice colonial centre but is very touristy. You can see this in everything from the prices to the horse drawn carriages for the mostly American tourists. We are definitely back in the smaller tourist circle close to Cancun.

Among the old buildings of the historic centre are also some modern architectural marvels.

Time to get some lunch and cool down back at the hotel. It is simply too hot to explore the city properly.

After some down time at the hotel pool it started to rain. Perfect timing to run to a nearby pizza place.

Tomorrow, we will drive to Valladolid and on the way explore the 'yellow' town of Izamal.
