After a nice comprehensive breakfast at our hotel, located in the historic city centre, it was time to explore the city of Bukhara and it’s many wonders..
Bukhara is an ancient city in the central Asian country of Uzbekistan. It was a prominent stop on the Silk Road trade route between the East and the West, and a major medieval center for Islamic theology and culture.
Bukhara still contains hundreds of well-preserved mosques, madrassas, bazaars and caravanserais, dating largely from the 9th to the 17th centuries.
As it was a Sunday it was pretty packed with mostly local tourists. Most foreign tourists (just a few) are German and of considerable age. Uzbekistan isn't a popular tourist destination just yet..
Before getting some lunch it's time to get some money. ATM machines are rare and usually don't take Visa cards so we have to take advantage of this opportunity. We need around 4.000.000 to pay our upcoming hotels (around 425 euro).
After lunch and through the rain we headed back to visit some more historic buildings and of course we came across a local amusement park..
Time to relax a bit at the hotel before seeing one more sight and getting some dinner!
Tomorrow we head out of the city to visit some sights and then travel onward with the, faster, train to Samarkand!
